We are reaching out to inform you of important regulatory requirements. The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR, Regulation (EU) 2023/1115) is intended to reduce and prevent the European Union’s contribution to global deforestation and forest degradation.
Each publisher, printer, and other supplier providing books or other products that fall under the scope for shipment into Europe must comply with the EUDR. The regulation officially came into effect on June 29, 2023. While the regulation is now legally in force, businesses have a transition period to prepare for full compliance.
Recently, Jessika Roswall, Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience, and a Competitive Circular Economy, requested that the European Parliament and Council consider postponing the EUDR compliance date to December 2026. She noted that the Commission’s information system for EUDR covered transactions is currently not expected to handle the full volume of anticipated activity. Any delay would require approval from both the Parliament and Member States. No vote has been scheduled at this time.
We are actively preparing with our publishers and suppliers to confirm readiness of all materials and data. This includes capturing and transferring EUDR-required details such as geolocation, harvest information, or Due Diligence Statements.
- For books printed at Lightning Source, we will provide you the required Due Diligence Statements to meet compliance.
- For books supplied to Ingram Book Company, you will need to provide us operator information, product details, geolocation data, and either compliance declarations or existing DDS numbers. We will provide details for collection at a later date.
While final EU guidance and systems are still being completed, we are working towards compliance as soon as is feasible. We’re monitoring the latest developments and will be in touch with the exact specifications as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued business,
Ingram Content Group
